My why.
When I was pregnant with my first baby, I knew I wanted to breastfeed but did not spend much time preparing. I did spend a lot of time researching strollers and nursery decor.
Due to some birth interventions and common breastfeeding issues, my first baby and I struggled to get breastfeeding started. Luckily I had a great supply and plenty of supportive people around me. I went to see a lactation consultant a few times, got advice from friends, saw another breastfeeding professional and stuck with my goals. By the time my baby was 2-3 months old, breastfeeding was no longer painful and we were both enjoying it!
When my next baby breastfed right away without any issues, I realized that while I did have great support with baby #1, I had not prepared myself as well as I could have. Some things you do just have to learn by experience but I think I could have prepared myself a little more.
I was so inspired by my breastfeeding supporters and others in my community. I continued to breastfeed and had struggles and triumphs with all 4. I’ve continued my breastfeeding support education since 2015 in order to help my community now.
Preparing before baby comes and creating good support for postpartum are passions of mine. I’m here to encourage, love and support you!
